I agree, have him do the pre-surgery bloodwork...I think maybe your bassett had such a hard time could possibly be because of the type of anesthesia used..."Old time vets" tend to use injectable anesthetics which can be very dangerous for these little yorkies...In today's day and age, your vet should be using gas anesthetics like isoflourine and sevoflourine...These are MUCH safer and your dog is able to wake up as soon as they take off the gas...With the injectables, the drugs are in their blood system, so if anything goes wrong or they gave too much, well...the dog's going to have a very hard time..
