I can understand your feelings. We had kittens around here constantly for about a year. I was very attached to them since I helped pull them out, nurse them from day one and help mom raise them. I cried every time I found a home for them. It's been a few months since the last ones went to a home and I miss having a kitten around the house. My husband is not a cat person but for me there is nothing like having a kitten purr in your ear. I'm hoping one just sort of wanders into my yard
