With children, even 2 yr. olds there is a common language and a verbal explanation of whats acceptable can be conveyed. With animals I think its harder to get the point across. Please don't misunderstand my relationship with this little girl. I love her to pieces and take her everywhere. I am just trying to improve our relationship even more. I don't reprimand her out of anger nor am I defending my position. Small dogs are new to the bride and I. Please let me know how this is addressed in "class".

Stephen,
Honestly, I am just starting this process, I am not the expert, so I don't think I'm qualified to explain it well. But from what I understand so far you're supposed to "click & treat" the instant that the dog is doing the behavior you want. Reinforcing that behavior rather than the negative behavior. You need to get your clicker timing perfect so as not to click the wrong behavior.

We're still using verbal reprimands such as "Off" when he's jumping on my girls, but trying to incorporate the clicker training more. I would definitely refer to the link above for more info.

Also, I will say, that in the last 24 hours, Otis learned to sit, and seems to be a better listener! Also, wearing him out with lots of play in the morning definitely lends to a more well behaved puppy the rest of the day.

Good luck!
