I never had an issue with Gracie needing to eat during the night. I had her on a 3-4x/day feeding when I got her at 8 weeks, with the last feeding at 7 pm. She always needed to go potty around 2 am or so. Eventually, she got to where she could hold it all night. A good rule of thumb is they can control their bladder in hours for the number of months that they are old, until 6 months or so. By about 5-6 months, Gracie had mastered the doggy steps so she could take herself potty during the night. (She uses pads indoors).
