It's 8:40 AM and I just dropped Archie off at the vet's for his neutering. He had pre-anesthetic blood work done on Saturday and his neutering is today. We can pick him up tomorrow. The house feels so empty without him! And I had to leave him in a cage, which he HATES. But...I asked them to show me where he's going to be for the night, and they assured me that he was going to get a wee wee pad, and they will take him to the dog run to go to the bathroom. They took me into the surgical area, etc., and showed me the operating table and everything. They also said they'll call after surgery, and told me that there will be a nurse with him through the night, and explained to me that he will be getting a sedative to get the endotrachial tube in, and a gas anasthetic (isoflurane). They will wake him up right after surgery and give him fresh oxygen. Then, he'll be on pain meds. I also asked if they could please remove any baby teeth left over. I'm still really nervous, even though I trust the hospital and the staff there. My boyfriend and I had made a pact that if they don't let us in the back to see the surgical area and where he's going to stay for the night, then we wouldn't leave him there. There was a little yorkie next to him that was also scheduled for surgery. A cute little brownish one who had a broken leg or something. When Archie comes home, he has to wear the collar around his head for 10-14 days to keep him out of the stitches. Awwww...My first night away from my baby. It's sad...
