lucynfred, the NutriCal that we use for Toto says "For Veterinary Use Only" on the box. Our vet told us that the formula is different from what is sold in pet stores. She prescribed it for Toto because she is so finicky and it is just a "safety" to insure that she gets all the nutrition & vitamins every day. We give her 2cc every day and she loves it!

About the anesthesia ... there's been lots of good information already posted here. I think one thing that is a particular danger for these little babies are veterinarians who just aren't familiar with some aspects of the "little" ones! They require much smaller quantities of everything such as anesthesia, medications, food, etc. Even though I have read lots of instructions that say "up to 10 lbs." that's about twice what would be needed for a 3-4 lb. Yorkie. There have been lots of things that we have had to "divide" ourselves because it only comes in about twice what Toto needs. We feel that the most important thing we can do for Toto is make sure that she is only seen by a vet who is familiar with this little breed and we don't give/do anything that isn't approved by the vet first. It's probably not always necessary but it makes me feel lots better!
