Your good deed was a good deed! So, please realize you did the right thing. It is sad when we think we can make a difference in the life of a child and the laws don't allow us to succeed. I have to think in this way--the laws are written to protect most of us, but some people fly under the radar. I am so happy that even though your thoughtful caring rescue of the dog resulted in a bigger issue, we just have to thank goodness for small favors.
Bless you for your thoughtfulness. Doesn't it just seem silly when we jokingly say "No good deed goes unpunished" and that is how it seems to be in truth.
