after you tell him no are you following up and telling him he is good when gets quiet for you ? Just like any dog it doesn't take them long to learn that no means stop doing something immediately, but it takes time for you to teach him what is acceptable to do after that NO come out of your mouth.
For Ryoko I say NO BARK! and i wait a few second for silence and then say GOOD NO BARK ! so now he knows that no bark means be quiet... Yes he still barks, which all dogs do to communicate, but he knows when i say no bark , not to bark.
The test comes when my new dog, Kaze starts barking , then ryoko wants to bark as well, but when i say no bark, even if Kaze is still barking because i have not taught him that yet, Ryoko will stop.. if he is really agitated he will wimper and whine, but he wont bark when i give him that command. |
