I'm sorry you gave up JJ. Did you by any chance contact a behaviorist to see if they had any ideas on how to possibly correct the situation?

I know a family in a similar situation who hired a behavorist and only allowed the baby and puppy in the same room together while during supervised training, ect. It has worked out very well for them and the dog does not snip at the baby anymore.
