My furbabies roam free as well...They don't chew on things they're not supposed to and they are totally potty trained.
Everyone knows their furbabies best...You just have to decide whether you think your dogs could be trusted. My dogs don't fight or anything like that so I don't have to worry about it.
To answer your question, if you think it will be a problem, you should probably get two or get a larger one with a divider. Instead of a crate, you could use an x-pen or a baby gate to keep them confined to a certain area if you want.
