1 lb ground turkey
1lb ground beef
1 sweet potato-steamed
1 cup lentils-boiled
1 cup brown rice -boiled
2 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup flax seed
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 lb peas
2 stalks of celery-chopped
1 bag of small baby carrots-steamed
4 cups of chicken broth-sodium free
4 cups of water
i mixed this all together, then separated it in containers , which would last me about a week.
then i added in each one ,a different flavor,
i used peanut butter in one, applesauce in another ,pecorino romano cheese in another. so this way sammy gets a different flavor every week.
i also add missing link with each meal, 2x a day , and he gets 1/2 super vitachew, with each meal.
my question is, do you think this if up to standards with nutritional value ? i would like to start giving him cosequin for his legs and joints and also give him grizzleys salmon oil. do you think this is too much for a 6 lb yorkie?
any help is greatly appreciated . thank you |
Hey. might i suggest cutting back on the grains (rice, potatoe, oatmeal) which are really just fillers, dogs dont' need them. I would maybe stick to one... and say... 2-3 of rice instead of all three of them. Also i would put the carrots in raw, not steamed as they loose A LOT of nutritional value when they have been cooked, the lentils on the otherhand NEED to be cooked

Also i don' think you need to add the water and chicken broth as it will make kind of like a soup, but it won't hurt that's for sure! souds like a yummy meal. one quick suggestion tho, if he has a food allergy, because you have SO many ingredients it would be very hard to narrow it down, however if he has had these foods already,, then go for it!!! when i cook for layla i make up 3 different meats and two different grains and tons of veggies.. each type of meat/grain/veggie gets its own baggie in a daily serving and each day i pick out one from each catagory and mix them together!
i would say YES to the salmon oil ( i just went and got Layla some yesterday!) but i'd go VERY slow adding new suppliements... i went too fast a few weeks ago and it upset her tummy!!!
I also think that sould last you longer than a week....??? how much do you feed a day??? i try and make enough so it will last a month.. but if you have the time to cook each week.. great!! the fresher the better!
