There are low protein foods that are okay for liver compromised dogs...They should be getting around 18%-20% protein if they are NOT having any kinds of symptoms...Lower if they are...My liver compromised yorkie is on low protein, and he doesn't have any problems at all. I homecook for him and give him certain supplements and he has a lot of energy. With liver compromised dogs, the TYPE of protein is extremely important. They cannot have any type of red meat including venison, beef, or lamb because they produce the most ammonia and damage the liver by overworking it unnecessarily...Any products with organ meats like LIVER are way too high in purines for liver compromised dogs. It is very harmful to them.
