OK. HEre's the deal.
We have had
Wilsonart laminate flooring in most of our downstairs area. I have been pretty happy with it. It looks great, easy to clean, and really scratch resistant.
Well...we went camping a couple of weeks ago, and when we came back, our refrigerator water line had leaked water, and we returned to find the floor in front of the fridge all wet. Those of you familiar with laminate know that if water gets in the cracks and sets for a long period of time (in this case, we were gone 4 days) it will buckle and get wavy. Of course, that is what happened, and we contacted our homeowners insurance, and we had to have a company come take out the WHOLE FLOOR! (This is 1/3 of our whole downstairs.) So we have the de-humidifiers and fans going in our house right now.
Anyway, it is covered, and I have found that I can either get the same thing, which I've been happy with, or this
Mohawk engineered hardwood floor for about the same price.
So here's my delimma: I love the idea of having real wood. But I will say that the Wilsonart I had looks really real (its not one of those fakey kind). Those of you with real wood, how does it hold up to yorkie toenails; is that even an issue? A regular evening activity here is throwing a ball into the kitchen for Chloe to run, and slide on her toenails to catch it. Second, how do you feel about its scratch resistance as far as everything else goes? High heels, moving a refrigerator...those kind of things I don't have to worry about with laminate. I know they make the newer woods with more durable finishes, but I'm just wondering. I'd really like to get this wood, but I want to make sure it is the right choice for our lifestyle.
Thanks!
