I had a Yorkie, Toby, that was litter box train for 8 years. He would go outside when I took him out, but most of the time he used the box. At the time I lived in an old farmhouse converted into apartments. When I moved to the upstairs apartment he refused to use the litter box. For the 2 years I lived there I had to walk up and down 3 flights of steps. When I bought a house he continued to go outside until the last year of his life.
