i'd say drop it if it's not a required course, but in my history, it probably is. i'd say wait it out...give him a chance. first time teachers are probably just as nervous and frustrated, and they need encouragement to get through the year. i would ask tons of questions, ask him to explain things twice (or how ever many times you need to understand), and hopefully he'll notice that you are a student who wants to learn and not just pass the class. i've had this experience with my own a&p professor who's first time was with my class. i failed, and retook it (with her again), and was much better at learning the second time since i asked questions and got to know her.

so..give him a chance and show him that you're a student who really wants to learn.
