Getting rid of the yellow and the human-smelt odor doesn't mean that the area is clean of dog-smelt odors. You have to really really read the directions and follow them to a T. You have to douse the spot, cover it with wet paper towels and keep the spot "wet" for a while to give the enzymes time to really work (oxygen and drying kills the enzymes that are devouring the "potty"). But it would help if you really make it more difficult to have those errors. If you don't have time to keep him on a leash on the puppy pad until he potties, then you can fence off the area of the puppy pad. He'll soon learn that he gets to get out and play AFTER he potties. I do understand the extra work that maybe you weren't prepared for at this point in your life. It happens. We had to wait until the time was right to get another Yorkie because they do take more work than other breeds.
