Default Skittish?

Do people describe your dog as skittish? I take Chewy to work with me, and so Chewy has a lot of interaction with people. He is very calm, always comes around the desk and checks everyone out. However, when people (especially kids) move to quickly or go to grab him, he'll back up a little bit. That's usually when people say, "Oh, he's skittish." The other day, I heard a lady tell her son, "Let's go, that dog is just skittish." I looked to see what Chewy was doing, and he was licking the little boys fingers, and his little tail was wagging. Anyway, it doesn't really bother me, I just wondered if other people describe your dog the same way? Maybe people just overuse that word with small dogs?
