My parents house, which they bought as an old, abandonded estate house, is over 100 yrs old. When I was younger, I remember all kinds of noises and things happening . My parents explained them all away - old houses settle and make noises, and doors open and close, etc. I believed it. I even believed the part about the airlock that made the toilet flush in the middle of the night. (Yes, Virginia, ghosts do use the toilet ). The house was part of the underground railroad (we found a hidden room) and before that, there was an indian reservation in the field behind the house on the riverbank. The burial ground was uncovered during the flood of agnes very nearby. The scariest day of my life was when I walked around the open graves with the bones still in them before Cornell Univ. came to remove them all. It was a late afternoon and a storm was brewing. I can't explain the feeling, but my gf and I both felt something like fingers touching us and people walking around us. We ended up running the entire way home. My brother now lives in that house and has been doing some major remodeling. Apparantly, the poltergeist, or whatever it is, is a little upset, because it has tried to push my SIL down the stairs a couple times. Her dad is a full-blooded native american and her uncle is a shaman. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but she seems more in tune with it than anyone else. Things have moved, been smashed, and flown thru the air. I, for one, am a believer that spirits of some sort do exist. As for my house, all the strange creatures here, I can see, thank goodness .
