I can understand your possition but that is completely contrary to what the other posts say. If he is not being watched then he needs to be in his crate. I work out of my house and can not keep an eye on him 24/7 so he has to spend some of the day in his crate, especially during this time of potty training. I would give anything for him to find a nice ray of sunlight to sleep in but he doesn't ever sleep! He runs around and pees on things.

Don't get me wrong, he doesn't spend all day in the crate he is out a lot but sometimes he does have to hang out in his crate. As far as "just to make life convenient for the humans."... I am a human and pets come second to me and my family. We love this dog like a member of the family but its not going to be given a place of authority in our house, im sorry but he will have to do some things to make like more convenient for us humans.

I hope that wasn't to harsh.
