Hi, this mange thing can be miserable. I brought in a puppy with it and I ended up treating everyone to be safe. I can tell you that it was like somebody said poison oak. Every time I thought about it I looked like the bear in the woods rubbing my butt on the door facings. I was sure them little mange mite critters were on me..
So, as for treatment. Ivermectin did the trick BUT we gave oral med that was very puppy/dog specific in its dosage calculation. Every dog had a different dose and they received it for 6 weeks. Now, remember all of them did NOT have it, but as with ear mites, every dog should be treated. If this is indeed sarcoptic mange and not demodactic, a prolonged series of Ivermectin should handle it. In live stock, Ivermectin is used as a topical prep as well as taken internally.
I will look in my Merck vet manual and Vet's desk reference for suggestions, meds and dosage. DDon't panic.. you baby will get better. our vet might refer you to a dermatologist for a secong opinion. I am very lucky. In my vet's practice there are many vets each with a different speciality..
Would you post a couple of pics of your baby as close-up as possible??
