Work out when your energy level is highest. Some people do it on an empty stomach, others prefer a light snack. Do what is comfortable. Your body will tell you what it needs, when it needs it. Personally, I prefer to work out in the morning, one hour after a BFAST high in complex carbs and protein. After I work out, I eat some Yogurt (non-fat) and fruit, or some other protein/carb combo. This carb needs to be something like a banana or a small plain bagel to get your glucose up. I gave up caffeine some time ago, just prefer water now.
