I tried to google paint protector, or pet-proof paint protector, if she does start to chew, but I don't know anything about paint. It was over my head! Ask at Lowe's or Home Depot is she does start to chew. The paint is probably harmless, but you want to keep it on the cage, not in her belly.

You could put a large or ruffled cage cover on top. (It's a good thing I'm getting a little girl of my own in a few weeks!)
