We just installed hardwood thorough out the house. I have lulu 99.9% housebroken. So on the very very rare occassion we get a bit of a piddle I get it right away.
I would recommend the hardwood. It's a lot harder to have water or spills get up under it and honestly for a few dollars more you come out on top in the long run. You can refinish it instead of replacing and if and when you ever decided to sell your home the value it brings is a lot more.
My dad put in laminate in his house and his older dog had some bladder issues towards the end of his life. Needless to say there is one area where the urine stained it and got under it. So we are going to have to remove those four boards completely for it to be ok.
