Canned food does NOT have less protein. In fact, it is much higher. In order to know how much protein is actually in a wet food, you have to convert the wet food to a dry matter basis....So, if you have a wet food that says it has 8% protein and let's say the moisture is 80%...Then you take 8 (the amt of protein) divided by 20 (the reciprocal of the moisture) = .40 = 40% protein on a dry matter basis.. So that food that you think is only 8% is actually 40% protein...

All of the people on this group have dogs with either liver shunt or MVD. They will have a ton of different food suggestions for you..
A couple that I know of that are supposed to be safe for dogs with MVD are Avoderm Vegetarian and Natural Balance Vegetarian...But you will get many more suggestions on the group...

Also, this group has a TON of information on liver shunt and MVD in their FILES section. It would be very beneficial for you and your doggie if you join this group
