No, Liver/Tan is not an acceptable "show" color in the Yorkies. Maybe someday it will be.
Chocolate or Liver is mutant in any breed that has that color, say Lab or Chihuahua or Schnauzer. That does not make it a bad thing if you are only looking at color or mutation.
And I would say the quality of the Yorkie would determine the price of the puppy. And as anyone knows Great Quality, Health and availability determine price in any situation.
Also, please do not be fooled by those that have the blue/tan born puppies that will grow to be hairless. Many people who are novice breeders think they have a chocolate when a puppy is born with the blue/tan and in a few weeks the tan part grows, but the blue eventually falls out and never grows back.
A chocolate/tan Yorkie has a pink nose and amber eyes and is truly chocolate from birth. Some do lighten up in color as they age and are almost a pink Champagne color in the saddle part of their hair coat.
BLowry, I would be happy to help you with your registration if you need me, PM me. Or you can call AKC. A lot of times they have the straight answers for you when others can only guess at the procedure of how things are done. |
I'm sorry if I mislead you...I do not own a chocolate...I would LOVE to though!! I was just stating that I don't see that listed on Lillies papers. She is going to be a light steel (I think..she is 14 months and still changing) with a lighter tan face. I wanted to wait a while to see if she changes anymore but, I think I am going to register her as blue/tan. (I think that's one of the color choices) It just bothers me when people try to "pull one over" on someone that is new to the breed...making them think they are getting a rare color...or a micro mini, or a teacup...Where if the person purchasing the breed did their research they would realize that this is in fact not true. I love this breed and think they are perfect they way they are..
By the way....Your little one is ADORABLE!!
