My vet said to just cut off the curve part. I thought the girls nails were too long. She said they looked fine to her. But, when I bring them have them spayed she said she will clip them when they are under. They don't like their nails being clipped either..I think it's the sound they don't like...I have tried an electirc file (the kind they use for our artifical nails) and an regular metal file...they didn't like either one.
