Zoe cried a lot the first couple of nites - I felt bad but I put her in the office downstairs and shut the door so we couldn't hear her, at least not much. But it only lasted a day or two. I would personally stick with it even though it will mean a couple of tough nites.
And a crate versus a cage.... to me a crate is a small kennel - mine is the one Zoe was shipped to us in. It is big enough for her to turn around a laydown down comfortably but that's about it. I would say a cage is larger and I usually think of a metal cage but they might come in different sizes. We only have a crate. Hope this helps.
