I still keep a harness and leash on Molly in the evenings while she's in the house. I can sit in the floor and hook it on my arm or foot, and she can roam a little bit, but I can keep an eye on her.
Another hint that saved me some cleaning...I had an old plastic lined tablecloth that my son used for painting when he was little. I put that on the floor while she played in the evening, especially when she was little. It was easier to clean accidents off of it than the carpet!
