Six weeks seems too young to me, too. The breeder says she gradually gets the puppy used to being away from the mother, but I'm not convinced even that's a good idea at such a young age. Most of the breeders I'm running across in this area release their babies around 8 weeks, including the breeder I'm buying from (who happens to be a vet). However, we will probably wait until he's 10 weeks before taking him.
