You most definitely have my thoughts and prayers...I know it must be very difficult. Right now you are probably asking why??? But the only answer is why not. My husband is an insulin dependent diabetic...I know it'll be hard for her but not impossible. This is one disorder that can be controlled, and if you and she do a good job controlling it, there is no reason for it to control her. Mikayla will be okay...just understand what is necessary to make her feel well. Be confident...she needs your strength, so that she will be able to control this and lead a very normal life. Tight control, to regulate her blood sugar is vital...but the very tight restrictions are not as important as they once were. My husband has been a type I insulin dependent diabetic for over 30 years...he still works hard every day, has none of the complications associated with DM I, he takes insulin injections twice daily and checks his glucose 4 times daily. Overall he is healthier then I am. The key to it is to control it so it does not control you. That is my best advise. I know 7 years old is so very young to understand the importance of strict control, but she will become a master at it...trust me, kids are smarter and stronger then we give them credit for...she can do this and you can help, just be supportive, teach her now...so she can enjoy her life without complications. Hugs to you both...it will be okay...modern medicine has advanced so much, take advantage of the information and the knowledge available. I'll be hoping and pulling for her...she can do this...and do this well.
