It helped him and helped relieve Roxy and let her slowly dry up instead of all at once. I fed them either by syringe or bottle every 2-3 hrs. It was very tiring but worth it in the end. I bought every nipple out there possible and finally ended up with the Gerber newborn nipple that was their favorite. I used Just Born formula in the powder form so it was easy for in the middle of the night feedings. I hope this helps a bit. Good luck with everything!! |
Thank you for this post and this information. Last year my Roxy ( is it in the name? ) had eclampsia also even though she was eating just fine. My vet recommends that I give her 1/2 of a PetCal tablet crushed in her cottage cheese, which she ate with glee. One morning I noticed that she did not come running to greet me and she could hardly stand. Her right foot seemed to be in spasm and one could plainly see that she was in distress. Needless to say, I rushed her to the vet hospital and they immediately began the I.V. drip and she perked up in no time. When she was allowed to come home I was advised not to let her nurse at all and I continued to feed the puppies by hand, but Roxy was clearly in distress about this and it broke my heart not to allow her in with them.
She was spayed as soon as it was safe to do so. I just couldn't risk another litter perhaps jeopardizing her life.
I guess I am just a bit confused, because I see some girls have the eclampsia no matter what they are fed, or how well they eat and this really frightens me.
