Is it a doppler or a prenatal listening device? The prenatal's aren't as good as the dopplers, (midwifes use those), and they don't pick up the heatbeat very well. Anything can interfer with it, position of the baby, their back to you, sitting behind something like the placenta,etc. I think some of them state on the box that they are for use from 24wks or something because the heart is too small for them to pick up.
I have one and at 15wks I couldn't pick the heartbeat up but I could clearly hear the whooshing sound of the placenta and my own heartbeat.
I'd try again in a few more weeks and you should be able to hear the heartbeat clearly. |
