My granddaughter's cat was destroying the furniture and carpet, and no amount of intervention got her to stop. So, my daughter had her declawed. It was EXTREMELY traumatic, the recovery took a long time, and my daughter said she would NEVER do that again.
Yes, the cat recovered, BUT she stopped using the litter box for several weeks while healing. Then, she would pee in the box, but poo on the carpet. Now, the cat lives with me because I have concrete and wood floors, and she will use the litter box in my house.
I think the declawing caused LOTS of trauma and we wish it had never been done. On the other hand, without declawing, my daughter would have had to rehome the cat - but she ended up rehoming her with me anyway!
