I brought in a fecal sample, that came back clear so all is well there. The did give her dewormer anyway of course. Her ears were caked with wax so the vet put some ear cleaner in them and really gave them a good cleaning and said that it should have prevent an infection. I was very embarrassed that the vet found a flea on my little girl, I brush her twice a day and have never seen one on her yet. She gave us something called revolution which is for prevention of fleas and heartworm. She weighed in at a whopping 1.25 lbs which sort of shocked me because she supposedly weighed 1.2 lbs the day I received her (2 weeks ago tomorrow) shouldn't she have gained a bit since then? She eats very well and I also giver her nutrical in the a.m and p.m. She has dry kibble 24/7 and puppy ceasar 3x a day. Her anal gland were quite full and they cleaned those out for me, I had told the she was doing the butt scooting.
Ok, so now my worries about her after shot behavior. The vet did say that she may sleep a lot because of the shot. Oh yea, she was only given the kennel cough shot, we are waiting 2 weeks and then she will get her distemper, they didn't want to over do it. So, she is normally a very energetic pup.. i'm sure you all understand that and since we have been home from the vet she is sleeping. When I hold her she trembles a bit, and she did throw up a little treat I gave her shortly after we had gotten home. Is this a normal reaction? |
Hi there!
Here's how it went with my puppy when i got her. She was 11 weeks old and had already received her first shots so i went in to give her the second set. She got bordatella and a second shot of distemper, parainfluenza, adenovirus and parvo. She was normally a very very active puppy but her shots knocked her out completely! So i would say that her being sleepy is normal. She didn't vomit but the vet did warn me that this could happen and that it was nothing serious. He just said to let her sleep.
As for her weight... when i got chloey she was just over 1lb. When i went to the vet for her shots, she was just a little bit over that. I too got a little worried that she was not gaining more weight but if your puppy is not going to be very big (Chloey maxed out at 5lbs) then the weight gain seems very slow. If she is anything like my dog she'll start really gaining at around 4-5 months. This is when Chloey put on the majority of her weight.
Good luck with your puppy! And if the vomiting gets worse i would go back to the vet. You can never be too careful with these little dogs
