Size does matter. If the dog is under 5 lbs there is more of a chance of problems. My Chelsey was 2.8 at 5 months and is over a year now weighting 4.6 so you really never know. We fixed her as she seemed to small to have puppies and the vet agreeded. Her Mother Mandy was only 4.8 when she was breed the first time and did awesome so the build of the dog has alot to do with it. Mandy was bigger around the middle than Chelsey and the vet said she looks like she could handle puppies.
You may just need to wait and see
