I, too, posted on your thread as you were making this agonizing decision. My heart just breaks for you and your family. It probably doesn't seem like it right now, but you were the best friend to Newman in your choice.
I hope you will find comfort in your loving memories of him. And I hope as time passes you will find that you can open your heart to another furry friend as I think that is the ultimate cure for a broken heart.
