Putting a collar on a dog like that CAN make her more aggressive and fearful of strangers!!!! Sounds to me like that trainer is backwards.... you should go to a trainer that teaches Molly to stay calm near strangers- how can choking her every time a stranger comes near teach her to be calm??!! I say FOOEY to that trainer!!!!! Punishment in this situation can aggravate the behavior. Good job finding someone new!
My vet suggested the NILIF method, and it's great! Good luck with everything, and I commend you for taking this seriously. Too many dogs get put down because their aggression isn't controlled, and this is sad because they could be really good dogs if trained properly!
