The infection from tartar buildup was so bad that she lost a tooth and others started wiggling. I didn't know that you should brush a dog's teeth before this. If we would've let it go, the infection from her mouth could have spread to her heart and kidneys causing big problems. The vet said that the spreading infection was more of a risk than anesthesia. Maybe you could get the dental done once and start brushing from now on to try to avoid future dentals. That is what we are doing. I'm not sure it will work though. What kind of anesthesia does your vet use? It should be isoflourine or sevoflourine. Will they have an IV catheter in your dog? They should.

I had seen a study recently that said dogs with healthy teeth live 3-5 years longer than dogs with not so healthy teeth.
I called the vet today and she told me that they use the gas type of anesthesia, didn't tell me the names just that it's a safe kind b/c is gas instead of injected. She lso mention the catheter in Chikis procedure. I 'm going to get pezlife too. Thanks for the info.
