The nipples and vulva usually don't completely return to normal. The nipples should mostly return to the way they looked pre-heat, but sometimes there is a little more tissue there so they aren't as flat as they were before. The vulva will never return to the size it was before the heat. It doesn't stay nearly as big as it is during the heat and will shrink quite a bit, but it will still be bigger than it was before the heat. The amount of time it takes to go back down depends on the dog - some dogs have false pregnancies. I would keep them seperated for at least another two weeks just to be safe.
