New Here...think I am in trouble. (LONG) Hi all....I'm new to the site here, but not new to Yorkies. I have a 2 yr old yorkie named Grizzly. I kinda felt he needed a B I G name since I also have a 103# older dog! lol
Anyway, just 2 days ago, I bought a baby yorkie girl. The breeder is in Amanda, Ohio and her name is Mary Beedy. If anyone knows of her, please let me know.
The little girl I purchased was advertised as "rare white" yorkie. Though I questioned the breeder thoroughly, she insisted it was a fluke birth, as in having the white gene. The puppy is actually a very very very pale tan or blonde color with darker tan edges to her ears, back feet and around her nose/mouth area. She is 10 weeks old.
The breeder told me that the little "bumps" on either side of her inside hips/groin area were actually her ovaries and that her vet told her it wasn't a problem, that she would grow into them and they'd disappear!
That was Thursday. Friday noon I had her at my vet! Bad news...MY vet says she has bilateral inguinal hernia; she has open fontanel, mild entropion and a very bald spot at the base of her left ear. She also had very very bad tapeworms.
On the bright side, though, she is a very bouncy, energetic little 1.6 lb. little fluffball!!!!
Anyway, I phoned the breeder, explaining nicely all the things the vet told me.
Oh, I forgot this...probably important! The vet said (my vet that is) that the open fontanel is pretty normal and prominent in the chihauhau(sp) breed, but not many other dogs have this even as newborns. I will say, that when my vet said that, she did not know that this breeder also breeds chihauhau's as well as yorkies. But when I told her that, she just smiled and said she suspected the male chi dog got to the yorkie female and sired this puppy while the yorkie male had sired the littermate.
So, anyway, the breeder swears up and down 100% positive absolutely that there is no way this not a full blooded yorkie puppy, despite her coloring and the other things the vet found. I did ask her to pay 1/2 on a DNA test to determine if the yorkie male is indeed the father. She agreed to that, then immediately (she was very upset w/me--tho I was trying to be very nice and calm)said she'd call me back.
That was yesterday early evening, I called today at noon and left her a msg saying I felt that I just needed to return the dog and asked her to call me. She has not retuned my call yet today or from yesterday.
Since I have a very strong feeling I am not going to hear back from her, my reason to post here asking for advice is to ask several things:
1. IS the open fontanel typical in all dogs? yorkies inclusive?
2. does this make sense in ANY FASHION that this little puppy could possibly the result of the white genes in a yorkie line?
3. If she does not return my calls and I can't get any result w/her, is there somewhere I can file a complaint against her or do anything about this situation?
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do next? She did register the pup with CKC and both parents are also registered thru CKC.
Thanks. Sally |
