Good for you for sewing vests for your yorkie, I bet they will be great! A few years ago I was a professional seamstress who manufactured pet toys for a company who sews all of it's pet toys and pet bedding in the United States as opposed to most who import from China. I did this work for 14 years. When I read your post I never got the idea that you were trying to copy anyone's work, I read that you were just trying to put a D ring on your vests. And seriously, even if we are inspired by others work even if you just change one aspect of it you are not violating copywrite laws so peek away at anything you can and sew whatever you want(assuming their product has even been copywrited)..........you go girl.
