I think the major problem I have with animal products is that humans don't chew on bones so those bones that animals get are not human grade. There are salmonella recalls on this kind of stuff all the time. Ellie eats meat, but it is human quality. She would be allowed to eat food with crushed bone (a high quality kibble) if the meat is human quality. There is no way I would ever give her raw meat, so I won't give her bones from home that aren't cooked. I would give her bones that are cooked but they splinter, so that is obviously a bad idea. As for calcium, Ellie will be getting egg shells crushed for calcium when I get a grinder, but the eggs are human grade and I think people can eat egg shell. (EW).
