I would never date a cat person because I'm allergic to them and it wouldn't be fair for me to say 'you're with me now and I can't be around cats.' That would be like some guy telling me that he can't be around my dogs. In your case, since you are just afraid to let your dog near the cats, I think it is possible to work something out. I think they can learn to co-exist. They may not be the best of buds but I've seen dogs and cats learn to tolerate each others presence
