No I don't believe you were rude. You had reason. I mean its one thing for her to try and hold your dog if you haven't told her not to but at the point in time you told her she couldn't she should've quit trying. She really had some nerve to keep on after you told her that she couldn't hold her. I personally don't try and hold anyone's dog but even if I did if someone told me that I couldn't I don't believe I'd keep trying. Its your dog, you set the rules and be proud that you didn't give in. Then you may have felt really bad if something did happen. I think some people just don't get it like you said. There's reason as to why we don't let just anyone do whatever they please with our dogs.
