I agree - crate training is great. It gives the pup somewhere to feel safe and gives you a little more freedom. Coby goes in voluntarily when I'm getting ready to leave and he can't go, and sometimes goes in when he's getting a treat for something else (I guess he equates it with treats because he gets one everytime I have to put him in there.)
It sounds like you're doing fine. If he chose to nap in there today, he does like it. I'd follow some of the suggestions with treats and scented clothing. Sometimes, Coby is wound up and doesn't want to be in his kennel. In those times, he likes to bark and scratch. What works for me is to just cover the kennel completely like a bird's cage. He quiets right down and goes to sleep. This is the second yorkie that it's worked with. So you might try that along with everything else you're doing. Sounds like it'll work out just fine.
