I don't have as much experience as the above breeders but I can share an experience that I have had with inguinal hernias. I had a male(his first time breeding) that I bred to two proven females who had never had puppies with inguinal hernias. BOTH litters had inguinal hernias. Seems like it's genetic to me. Along with talking to an experienced show/breeder(over 30 yrs experience) that said it is genetic and if both parents carry the gene, then you get the hernias.

I guess I should have said that inguinal hernias can be genetic.
