The only reputable registries in the US are AKC and UKC - the others were created to register dogs that couldn't be registered with AKC or UKC. There are so many registries now and basically any mix off the street can be registered for a fee. Lacy is actually APR registered - at the time I got her I didn't care about registration and just wanted a puppy. I will only buy AKC registered puppies from now on though as I plan to buy from a show breeder next time I get a yorkie (which will be in a few years unfortunately). If someone doesn't care about the lineage of their puppy and just wants a pet quality puppy, then I guess it doesn't matter if they are registered or not but only backyard breeders use a registration such as APR

Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs.
Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
