For most arrangements it is good to have a shape in mind, like a square, rectangle,etc. Then when you are arranging them make sure that the outermost picture edges are on the borders of your shape to make that shape.

I understood your suggestion easily. It sounds like a perfect way to get it "right." I am a neat freak and so had to arrange mine in a very uniform fashion but conforming arrangements are not the "in" thing anymore. Do share your finished project.
