It's not part of NYC. It's just a drop north of NYC.
Just a factoid - we call Manhattan, "the City." In other words, if I go to Manhattan, I say "I'm going to the City."
Brooklyn is the best borough, Queens has the best food, the Bronx has Yankee Stadium and the Bronx Zoo, and Staten Island is like a small town (very nice, but they're becoming overdeveloped and there's too much traffic).
Maybe some of us can come into the City to meet up with you. Pm us when you get here!
