I give bones all the time. I prepare them especially for my 7 critters. I buy the soup bones that look like round slices of probably a femur or leg bone. I take all of the marrow out, then boil them for usually an hour to sfoten grizzle or whatever. Take them out, let them cool, scrape any remaining tissue off. Then I scrub them with a brush, rinse and they absolutely LOVE them. I choose specific sizes and shapes and they can chew them but they are too thick to break. Every so often, I wash them again in soapy water, rinse then put them in hot water with beef buillon cubes. They are ready to go again. My largest dog is about 7 pounds so I do not have to worry about swallowing them, getting choked on them or having the jaw strength to break them..
If you don't feel comfortable giving your babies bones, I would say don't do it. Use Nylabones ar similar product.. |
